FLSSP Working on Ambitious New Trails Plan

Friends of Lake Sammamish State Park is working on a new trails plan for the park designed to increase accessibility and connectivity . The committee began field surveys and assessments last February.   Opportunities and deficiencies of existing trails were identified and overlain with streams, wetlands, and internal and external trail connections.  The committee then developed fifteen recommendations which include abandoning some existing trails and building several new ones. A major component is a new footbridge spanning Issaquah Creek to allow for an internal loop.

A draft report and a cost estimation of various types of trail surfaces will be available by  spring 2020.

Various trail groups, State Parks, the City of Issaquah and City of Sammamish have also been involved in the planning process.  After further planning, public and private support will be sought to implement the final Trails Plan.

Kit Ledbetter, Bill Way, Richard Benson, David Kappler, Tor Bell, David Bush, and John Sherwin are leading the Master Trail Plan work.
