Conservation Challenge - Coexisting with Carnivores

Wild carnivores need food, shelter, water, and safe places to travel and rest. Our homes often encroach on wildlife habitat, which leads to increased interactions with carnivores as they strive to find these necessary resources. They are doing their best to avoid us, unless they can’t.

PLEASE FOLLOW THESE TIPS TO KEEP OUR NEIGHBORHOODS AND WILDLIFE SAFE:

• Store garbage indoors or in bear-resistant garbage cans. Place outside on the morning of pick-up.

• Hang bird and hummingbird feeders 10 feet off the ground and 10 feet from supports.

• Feed pets indoors and do not leave pet, livestock, or poultry feed outdoors.

• Keep barbecue grills clean and grease-free.

• Pick all ripe fruit promptly and clear the ground of fallen fruit.

• Enclose compost, fruit trees, beehives and chicken coops with chain link or electric fencing.

• Keep pets inside from dusk until dawn.

The Carnivore Coexistence Action Team (CCAT), a group of your Issaquah neighbors, has been working together to identify and address issues of human-carnivore coexistence in the community.

The team has designed a “door hanger” with this information for you to use and share with your neighbors.

Please find the PDF of the door hanger, so you can digitally “hang” it and share it with your neighbors and friends!
