Summer Nature Programs at Lake Sammamish State Park Wanda Peters, state parks naturalist, has created an exciting line-up of special nature programs at Lake Sammamish State Park for people of all ages and abilities this summer through Labor Day weekend.

All programs are free! Remember your Discover Pass!

There are some changes since we first announced the programs in June, so please note those changes.

PRESCHOOLERS:

Mini Rangers 10 to 11 a.m.

Thursdays, beginning June 30 through Sept 1 (not on July 14 or Aug. 11)

Children ages 3 to 5 and their parents will enjoy a Mini Rangers program—a time when adults and preschoolers will explore nature together. Wanda plans stories, puppets and more. RSVP if possible to Wanda.Peters@parks.wa.gov or 425-507-7233 – When you RSVP please let us know if there is anything we should know about your child, e.g., allergies or phobias, etc. Please note that we may not stick to a paved trail, so be prepared!

CHILDREN

Junior Rangers

3 to 4:30 p.m.

Saturdays, beginning June 25 through September 3.

Appropriate for kids in the developmental age of 6 to10 years old, our Junior Ranger nature programs start at the Sunset Beach Bathhouse. Explore the wild and wonderful world of nature right at Lake Sammamish State Park. Junior Ranger programs include nature walks, environmental games and activities, and nature crafts. Be prepared to get dirty and have fun while learning about the plants, animals, insects, amphibians and birds that live in the park. Parents are welcome to accompany their children and participate. For the safety and well-being of the children, we ask parents to be in the area and accessible during the program. Please note that we may not stick to a paved trail, so be prepared!

ALL AGES

Nature Nook

1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Saturdays and Sundays, beginning June 25 through September 4.

Explore the Nature Nook at Sunset Beach Bathhouse. Let nature surprise you as you see nests and skulls, feathers and tracks and other bits of nature ‘up close.’ This is not a structured program; participants come as go as they please. All access, all abilities welcome!

Guided Family Walk

2-3 p.m.

Sundays, beginning June 2, beginning June 25 through September 4

Join Wanda for outdoor fun in nature for all ages and abilities, including nature games, exploration and discoveries in some of the wilder places of the park. Old clothes and walking shoes recommended. We may walk on unpaved paths so be prepared!

ADULTS

Wednesday Walk ‘n Talk

After work, 5:15.

Wednesdays, August 17 through September 28.

Spending even a few minutes in nature helps reduce stress and increase productivity. Spend an hour after work walking and enjoying nature. Meet at the bus shelter in the Tibbets Beach parking lot (first parking lot on the left after you enter the park). Enjoy bird sounds, eagles flying, flowers blooming and wildlife sightings. Join Lake Sammamish State Park naturalist Wanda Peters for a nature-filled hour as you wander off the beaten path and tune into the natural world.
