Sunset Beach to Close for Restoration in July

Sunset Beach will be closed for public access while restoration work is being done. Fencing will go up soon, through the duration of the work. State Parks is renovating the entire swim beach, including in-water and the out-of-water sandy beach, an ADA walkway to the water and a sandbox for kids. The restoration work on both sides of the new beach was done this past winter and spring. Swimmers can continue to use Tibbett's Beach all summer long.

It is estimated that the beach will re-open in November.

The closure during the busy summer months at this popular park is necessary because the in-water work must be done during the “fish window”—the period of time when work is least likely to negatively affect fish, particularly salmon.

People may check on the status of the beach closure by checking the Lake Sammamish State Park web page at http://parks.state.wa.us/533/Lake-Sammamish; signing up to receive alerts at http://parks.state.wa.us/AlertCenter.aspx; and by checking our social media channels—Facebook and Twitter.
