Join the Kokanee Work Group, UWRP, elected officials, the Snoqualmie Tribe and caring citizens on October 12 at the LSSP boat launch for the annual Kokanee release and special ceremony. This is a special event celebrating the successes of the Kokanee Work Group and those who have supported efforts to restore native kokanee salmon in Lake Sammamish.
The event is cosponsored by the KWG and will include speeches by local elected officials, Snoqualmie Tribal Leaders, and several KWG members. A member of the Snoqualmie Tribe will share a song and lead us in a blessing of the kokanee fry. Snoqualmie Tribal leaders and elected officials will release the fry in the lake from boats. There will be light refreshments and a bon fire (weather permitting).
These fry are part of a strategy to restore the native kokanee population to healthy levels after decades of decline. The first fry release in Lake Sammamish was in spring 2010, with ceremonial releases each spring through 2016.
