Conservation Challenge-Help Native Bird Populations Thrive

You can help offset the impacts of development by restoring and protecting landscapes that allow native bird populations to survive and thrive. Start with your own backyard and create a space that is friendly for birds and animals.

Together we can protect important habitat for wildlife, allowing for a better environment for birds, animals and people.

Examples include:

  • Plant native species that provide food and shelter to native bird populations

  • Retain dead snags and branches that serve as rest and nesting sites

  • Eliminate pesticides which can be fatal to birds and their food sources

  • Remove invasive species such as ivy and blackberry

  • Leave leaf litter to provide food for foraging birds

  • Keep cats indoors

  • Provide a water source

Eastside Audubon has identified 35 species of plants, listed below, that are native, relatively easy to find, and have value to wildlife.
