Peter Herzog Selected as Interim Director of State Parks
Peter Herzog got his career start at Lake Sammamish State Park and has now been appointed Interim Director of Washington State Parks.
Herzog, a natural fit for the job, has worked for State Parks for nearly thirty years but has never fogotten his love of Lake Sammamish. His positions have included park aide, interpreter, ranger, planner, program manager, assistant director, and now interim director. In 2005, Herzog led an Issaquah citizen task force in drafting a Master Plan for LSSP that was adopted in 2007.
A native of the Eastside, he grew up in Bellevue, Washington and graduated with a BS in Forest Resource Management and Wildland Recreation from the University of Washington College of Forest Resources. He now makes his home with his wife Molly and their three children in Tumwater.
Herzog currently serves as State Parks’ designee on the State Recreation and Conservation Funding Board and the Board of Directors for the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Coalition. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, backcountry skiing, and flying model airplanes.
