First project of Comprehensive Trails Plan Complete
Work on a Master Trail Plan started in 2018 for Lake Sammamish State Park by a Friends of Lake Sammamish State Park volunteer committee. Opportunities and deficiencies of existing trails were identified and overlain with streams, wetlands, and internal and external trail connections. Fourteen recommendations have been developed, including abandoning some existing trails and building new ones. Public and private support will continue to be sought to implement the Plan.
This plan is intended to be used in conjunction with the Park Master Plan and to guide future trail improvements for the Washington State Parks planners and the Cascade Foothills area manager. The CTP is a thirty-to forty-year comprehensive plan that prioritizes trail projects and includes cost estimates.
One project, modifying NW Sammamish Road Trail surfaces like the wooden deck bridges to be bicycle friendly has been completed!! This means that Project #13 of the Comprehensive Trail Plan for LSSP has been completed, plus some!! This would not have happened without Washington State Park’s full support. Please check out the trail when going by on the road or walk on the trail itself! FLSSP board member Rich Benson and volunteers Jim Agnew and David Kappler supported Parks’ staff in pressure-washing the westerly footbridge. Additional work parties included cutting back blackberries and overhanging limbs. The west portion of westerly footbridge decking has been painted with traction paint, and secured with grating on its westerly ramp. Signs stating “No Bicycles” were taken down and replaced with “Caution - Slippery when Wet”. Washington State Parks used their slope mower along the entire trail length and Issaquah Parks has mowed the northerly side of the arterials’ sidewalk. Much better sight distance and the three footbridge decks are less slippery to prevent bicycle accidents! We are back to a 1st class trail!
