FLSSP Seeking Executive Director
FLSSP is seeking our next Executive Director to lead the organization. Friends of Lake Sammamish State Park (FLSSP) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to support, promote and enhance Lake Sammamish State Park. Washington State Park’s mission is to connect all Washingtonians to their diverse natural and cultural heritage and provide memorable recreational and educational experiences that enhance their lives.

Executive Director of Friends of Lake Sammamish State Park is a contract position.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Executive Director will report to the FLSSP Board of Directors and run the daily operations of the organization. This year-round, part-time position involves a variety of duties including fundraising, community relations, educational and event program development and management, support of the board of directors, volunteer management, and inter-agency and public communications.
Availability: Weekdays and some evenings and weekends, flexible hours. Work is for an average of 20-25 hours per week (not to exceed 1,000 hours annually.) Competitive salary based on experience.
Requirements and Skills
The ED will be thoroughly committed to FLSSP’s and WSP’s missions. All candidates should have proven leadership and relationship management experience.
Specific requirements include:
Relevant education, certification, and/or non-profit management experience.
Demonstrated commitment to natural resources management or environmental conservation principles
Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate board member relationships.
Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures. Excellent donor relations skills and understanding of the funding community.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively communicate FLSSP’s mission to donors, volunteers and the overall community.
Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people. Past success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies, and volunteers.
High level strategic thinking and planning. Ability to envision and convey the organization’s strategic future to the staff, board, volunteers and donors.
Passion, integrity, flexibility, positive attitude, mission-driven and self-directed. Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.
Strong computer and social media skills.
Washington State Patrol background clearance.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Administration:
Actively engage and energize FLSSP volunteers, board members, event committees, advisory board, partnering organizations, and funders.
Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors; serve as ex-officio of each committee; seek and build board involvement with strategic plan; assist in recruitment and onboarding of new Board members as needed. Provide timely communication to the Board regarding meetings, events, fundraising, outreach and recruitment efforts.
Ensure effective systems to track strategic plan progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents.
Ensure the fiscal integrity of FLSSP; assist Treasurer and Bookkeeper in administering finances and creating financial reports including monthly profit-and-loss reports, budget-to-actual and year-to-year comparisons; assist with routine deposits, payments and invoices.
Maintain database of donors, volunteers, and newsletter subscribers
Fundraising and Communications:
Create, develop, and coordinate FLSSP's media, government, marketing, communications, and public relations programs, including press releases, newsletters, annual reports, program brochures, social media and website content.
Act as a spokesperson and respond to media requests and speaking engagements by community organizations, local businesses, city, county and state lawmakers and other groups when appropriate.
Cultivate sponsorships with corporate partners, service organizations and government leaders to generate ongoing financial support of the organization.
Direct and perform fundraising efforts including grant writing and fund development.
Coordinate FLSSP activities at community and park events.
Plan and attend the annual meeting.
Events and Education:
Develop educational and interpretive programs and events in partnership with park staff, Board of Directors, volunteers and other community partners, such as Mountains to Sound Greenway, IATC, FISH, and others.
Ensure successful special events as identified by the Board, including planning and development of events, secure sponsorships, develop communications, recruit and manage event volunteers, and additional tasks as needed.
