Recycle Right Poster Contest Winners!

In late 2022, Lake Sammamish State Park started a pilot recycling program for empty plastic bottles, plastic cups, cans, glass bottles and clean paper. To help educate the two million people who visit Lake Sammamish State Park annually on what can be recycled and why recycling is important, Friends of Lake Sammamish State Park launched the “Recycle Right Poster Contest” for King County students K-12 in February 2023.

FLSSP received 36 amazing entries and is excited to announce 6 winners – 3 in the elementary grade division (grades K-5) and 3 in the secondary grade division (grades 6-12) – who will each receive a Discover Pass courtesy of FLSSP and a $75 gift package courtesy of Arena Sports Issaquah. The 6 winners are:

  • Iris Cheng, age 9, homeschool/Dickinson Elementary, Redmond

  • Tabitha Hale, age 10, McAuliffe Elementary, Sammamish

  • Naomi Tiwari, age 10, Redmond Elementary, Redmond

  • Vaaruni Bhargava, age 11, Beaver Lake Middle School, Sammamish

  • Praya Athi, age 12, Pacific Cascade Middle School, Issaquah

Winning contestants will be presented with prizes at FLSSP’s Walk n Wag event on Sunday, May 7th at 12:00pm at Lake Sammamish State Park. Winning posters, as well as some additional entries, will be displayed at the event and posted throughout the park afterwards to inspire and encourage visitors to recycle appropriate items and help keep our park clean.

Congratulations to these talented artists and thank you to our sponsor, Arena Sports Issaquah, for helping us promote recycling in our park!
